It strikes me as humorous that I enjoy cooking and baking as much as I do. In my twenties, any one of my friends could tell you that I would most likely burn a grapefruit!! I mess up here or there, or have a recipe turn out differently than I would have wanted, but for the most part I can do some damage in the kitchen!! I keep trying new bread recipes, and also throwing some together without a recipe. It’s a fun challenge to see if I can whip up something my kids rave about, or if it’s an epic fail. Then, if it doesn’t turn out, I take notes and try it again!! I’ve found some really great recipes for various desserts and cookies over the years, and I’ll be sharing those in the future as well.
One thing I really like about baking is it takes me out of my own head and gives me something to focus on. I don’t know about anyone else out there dealing with Perimenopause, but for me, a distraction is key to me maintaining sanity some days. Baking a nice big artisan looking loaf of bread is so satisfying! It warms up my house and makes it smell wonderful.
I think just the act of creating something beautiful in the kitchen is soothing as well. Spending an hour or two mixing, chopping, possibly singing off key lol, and ultimately coming up with a new dish or loaf is just a blast! At the end of the day, Betty Crocker I am not. But I try my best, and I figure if I’m having fun and my hobby is feeding the kids’ bellies, well we really can’t ask for much more than that, can we??
In my recipes section, you can find exactly what I used for my Cheesy “Everything but the Bagel” bread!
